Matthew Groom MP - Minister for State Growth

Thank you for your email of 25th June 2014 summarising a recent pre-feasibility analysis of the likely economic impacts of the Tamar Lake proposal, and advising that Tamar Lake Inc has resolved to commence engagement with the community as well as all tiers of government.

Though the Tasmanian Government has not formed a view on the proposal, I would like to acknowledge the initiative and commitment of Tamar Lake Inc in bringing forward a concept of this vision and scale. Irrespective of whether Tamar Lake becomes a reality, I commend the creative, considered approach taken by Tamar Lake Inc in seeking to solve long standing, complex problems, while also identifying the possible economic opportunities.

I am advised that Tamar Lake Inc is commissioning the last study in the suite of pre-feasibility analyses, and that this study will investigate in particular likely sediment behaviour beyond the proposed barrage, and flood risk implications, including those in respect of recently completed flood mitigation infrastructure for the City of Launceston. I understand the final report is anticipated in the first quarter of 2015.

I look forward to being appraised of the outcomes of that report.

Matthew Groom MP

Minister of State Growth

Will Hodgman MP - Premier

Thank you for your email of 8 December 2014 to myself and the Minister for Environment Parks and Heritage, the Hon Matthew Groom MP, regarding your organisation’s response to the NRM Notth peer review of three environmental studies commissioned by Tamar Lake lnc.

We note the conclusions of the peer review report and your organisation’s response. The Govemment encourages Tamar Lake lnc. to continue its investigations. The relevant authorities should be approached for advice on statutory assessment processes and requirements. As a first step the proposal should be discussed with the relevant local Councils.

Yours sincerely

Will Hodgman MP

Premier

l hope it is just a matter of time and effort before this hopefully becomes reality! When one looks at what Singapore achieved we have an opportunity to do something not as grand obviously but a dramatic shift in the ideas that we can achieve. It is a great concept, l have not been to Singapore since 1966 and the
transformation is just incredible, so the naysayers just need to understand and get their heads around just what your group is endeavouring to achieve.

Once all the boxes are ticked off and the studies done as requested by others then l believe things just might gain traction, keep in touch

Alderman Ted Sands
